Sales Representative Cover Letter Examples & Templates

A sales cover letter is itself a sales pitch - it should demonstrate persuasive writing and a track record of real numbers, not just claim you're "results-driven."

Write Your Sales Representative Cover Letter

Tips for a strong Sales Representative cover letter

  • Lead with a number - quota attainment, deal size, win rate - in the first two sentences.
  • Show you've researched the company's product or market, not just its name.
  • Treat the letter as a writing sample: tight, persuasive, no filler.
  • Close with a specific, confident ask - not a passive "I hope to hear from you."

Sample opening paragraph

I closed 128% of quota last year selling into mid-market SaaS accounts, and I'm applying for the Account Executive role on your team because I want to bring that track record to a product I actually believe in - I've used [Company]'s product myself and know exactly the pain point it solves.

Dear Hiring Manager,

My biggest deal last year came from a prospect who'd already been pitched by two competitors and said no both times. I spent two weeks understanding why - it turned out the real blocker was internal buy-in, not price - and restructured the pitch around a phased rollout their VP could sell internally. That deal closed at $180K ACV, our largest that quarter.

I'd welcome fifteen minutes to talk through how I'd approach your target accounts. I'll follow up next week if I haven't heard back.

Sincerely,
